lately i’ve been under the unders,
which is to say lately i’ve been hosting the ghosts
of everything i’ve ever loved and that silence gets to you,
you know, it tears you like the idea of something horrific
and before you know it, your entire existence is
a fresco of maybes and apologies and snapped skulls
and by snapped skulls, i am alluding to the notion that this sterile noise,
this silence, drives you crazy. once, a man told me that boredom
has its holy uses and i laughed at him and the rush of nostalgia
that immediately followed was the worst melancholy,

In another universe,
I have green eyes, curly hair,
and paint smeared across all my fingers--
a war cry of artistry
instead of needlepoint scars.
The pooch of my belly
and the lumps in my thighs
might be from anything else
but the insulin I inject four times a day.
I grow up a child, not a parent,
the master of my destiny
not running away but running toward;
I'm a little bit taller
in spirit and stature,
in all the ways that matter
when darkness creeps under the door
and phantoms howl.

I sit here wondering how this all came to be.
Where did all this attention come from?
Why do the shadows haunt me?
are these shadows my mistakes
or my beginnings
My mind is holding these devils,
I don’t know what to do anymore.
I want the demons to stop laughing in my ears.
demons are just my kin -
brother, sister but there is no one connection
Eventually, death becomes my friend.
I realize that I know it well in the end.
Because maybe we’re all dying before we live?
